Baby Sleeping Bags
Help your baby stay warm in bed with covers they can't kick off! Our baby sleeping bags are practical as well as looking adorable and will help your baby stay cosy all night long.
Also known as sleep sacks and growbags, these bed covers are a popular and safe way to keep infants warm and comfortable during sleep. Unlike loose blankets, which can pose a risk of suffocation or becoming tangled, baby sleeping bags provide a snug, wearable blanket that eliminate risks.
Benefits of choosing a baby sleeping bag
Safety: Baby sleeping bags reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) by ensuring the baby's head remains uncovered and the bedding stays in place. This prevents the baby from overheating or suffocating under loose blankets.
Comfort and Consistent Warmth: Sleeping bags provide consistent warmth throughout the night, preventing the baby from kicking off blankets and becoming cold, which can lead to disturbed sleep.
Easy to Use: Most baby sleeping bags come with convenient zips or poppers, making night time nappy changes quicker and easier.
Promotes Sleep Routine: Using a sleeping bag as part of a bedtime routine helps signal to the baby that it’s time to sleep, creating a comforting and familiar environment.
Understanding Tog Ratings
The tog rating of a baby sleeping bag measures its thermal insulation, indicating how warm it will keep the baby. Choosing the right tog rating depends on the room temperature:
- 3.5 tog: Best for very cold conditions or rooms below 16°C (61°F).
- 2.5 tog: Suitable for cooler weather, for room temperatures between 16-20°C (61-68°F).
- 1.0 tog: Ideal for warmer months, for room temperatures between 21-23°C (69-73°F).
- 0.5 tog: Suitable for warm weather or room temperatures above 24°C (75°F).
- For very hot weather babies can sleep in just a nappy with no covers.
Always monitor your baby’s room temperature and the manufacturers instructions and adjust the tog rating and their clothing accordingly to avoid overheating or being too cold.
Baby Swaddles
Baby swaddles are a traditional and effective way to help newborns feel safe and secure while they sleep. Swaddling involves wrapping a baby snugly in a blanket or muslin to replicate the cosy environment of the womb. This can soothe them and promote better sleep.
Benefits of using a baby swaddle
Reduces Startle Reflex: Babies are born with the Moro reflex, or startle reflex, where they will fling their arms up if they feel like they are falling or hear a sudden noise. This means that they may accidentally wake themselves up. Swaddling helps restrict these movements, allowing the baby to sleep more soundly.
Improves Sleep Quality: Swaddling creates a sense of security, which can calm a fussy baby and help them fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.
Encourages Back Sleeping: Swaddles help babies remain on their backs during sleep, which is the safest position recommended to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Mimics the Womb: The snug, enclosed feeling of a swaddle replicates the tight quarters of the womb, which is comforting to newborns, making them feel protected and less anxious.
Before using a swaddle please ensure you are aware of how to do this safely. Swaddling can be done from newborn to around 6 months.
Organic Swaddles
Our range of organic baby swaddles are best for newborns with their soft breathable cotton muslin material they are sized to be wrapped around a baby with some left over to be tucked in neatly. A good swaddle should be secure so it doesn't easily come undone in the night and should allow the baby to move their legs and hips.
